COVID-19 Recreation & Sport FAQs (19.01.21) & Red alert clarifications

Dear members, please find below a message from the sport branch.

As announced during today’s Press Conference, please note that Zones 1 (Moncton Region), 2 (Saint John Region) and 3 (Fredericton Region) will be transitioning to the Red Alert Level as of midnight tonight. Zone 4 (Edmundston region) remains in the Red Alert Level while all other zones in NB remain in the Orange Alert Level. The Frequently Asked Questions document has been updated and includes:

  • Directives for Red Alert Levels as follows: (*note another change since the last communication):
    • Indoor sport and recreational facilities, including other similar close contact sport or recreational businesses (pools, gym, fitness facilities, bowling alleys, escape rooms, yoga, dance studios, gymnastics, etc.), are closed.
Only essential travel is recommended in and out of Red level zones. Organized sport is not considered essential travel.
  • Q. 4 – Updated table to clarify rules when travelling in and out of public health zones.

We understand it can be frustrating to receive constant changes to directives but need everyone to understand that all of us including Public Health NB, the Sport and Recreation Branch, Municipalities and Organizations are simply trying our in an unprecedented situation. We thank you for your cooperation and patience.
