Events Update
Dear Members of the Swimming Community in NB,
As you know, we are all being asked to take precautions against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. SNB has decided to follow the NB Education Department guidelines by asking all swimmers, coaches and volunteers to refrain from participating in training and other activities for 14 days after their return from international travel.
Differences in advice from the Education Department and the Chief Medical Officer (Public Health) have resulted in confusion in our province, and some clubs have asked SNB to change its position. However, in this rapidly changing situation, SNB considers that precaution is important, and we will maintain this position, based on the education department guidelines.
As you may have heard, the Chief Medical Officer is now recommending that nonessential meetings of more than 150 people be cancelled. We had previously planned not to cancel meets but considering the most recent developments, we were obliged to review our activities for the upcoming three weeks.
15th March 2020: The Miramichi Development camp is going ahead with a small number of swimmers, but please check with Miramichi Whitecaps (MWC) for more details.
20th to 22nd March 2020: The Spring Champs in Saint John will be postponed as a result of discussions between TIDE and SNB. Instead a Time Trials will be organized on Saturday 21st for swimmers seeking Eastern/National qualifying times. Please contact TIDE meet manager to express interest and for more information.
28th and 29th March 2020: Premier meets are scheduled to take place in Campbellton, Fredericton and Sackville. Decisions on these meets will be made in consultation with the host clubs and we will provide an update by Friday, 20th March 2020.
It is still too early to make decisions as to events in April and May. SNB is monitoring this rapidly changing situation to ensure the safety of all members of the NB swimming community, while minimizing the impact on our swimmers.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
