How to become an official volunteer

HOW TO BECOME INVOLVED IN SWIMMING (VOLUNTEER)

Swim NB encourages all swim clubs to engage their parents in becoming an official.

The primary role of officials is to ensure fairness and sustainability in competitive swimming. Swimming is a technical sport which requires the support of significant number parent volunteers.

Swim Official is an expectation of parents with swimmers in the sport. It is a great way for parents to be involved in their child’s sport and to gain a better understanding of competitive swimming.

Under Swim Canada’s direction, all competitive swimming competition must be sanctioned, and require a roster of certified officials. Becoming a certified official is not complicated; however must follow a certification process by Swim Canada.

In order to have the ability to officiate you MUST complete officials’ clinic(s). Swim NB, with the assistance of clubs, offers different ways for parents to obtain swim official training. Clubs may choose class room style with an instructor at no cost to parents or through online clinics.

Class room clinics are offered throughout the year and most run between 1 to 2 hours.  Please contact your club Officials Coordinator for scheduled clinic or to schedule a clinic.

Swim NB has a partnership with Swim ON for online clinics. Online clinics are a great way for parents to complete clinics at their own convenience. Below describes the process of completing online clinics.

We encourage all parents to take a clinic. You can start by only taking Level I and then you can move towards Level II if officiating is appealing to you.

At any time you can contact your Officials Coordinator to discuss clinic opportunities or if you have any questions.

All clinic materials and questionnaires can be found at Swim Canada.
