Hon. Members of the TC:
Recently Ken McKinnon visited NB as part of his obligation to see carded swimmers and I jumped on the opportunity when he mentioned a camp for our performance swimmers. He agreed to come back and run a camp which I think it’s a great opportunity for our swimmers to gain some insight into needs of performance and training environment at that level. This is also a great opportunity for us as coaches to have round table discussion with Ken so we can move our performance stream forward. Ken agreed to informal conversations with coaches but no power point presentations which I think will have more value for us.
Below is info about the camp and the only piece to confirm is pool time in Saint John. Brian- would you be able to take that on?
Camp date: April 26-28, 2019 (Friday afternoon till Sunday noon)
Location: Saint John
Criteria for swimmers – an eastern time and/or junior National time. Currently we have 22 swimmers at that level (potentially 5-6 more)
Potential Pool time (need to confirm with the CGAC):
- Friday 26th – LC from 6am to Noon and 2pm to 4pm. We might need to share space with TIDE and most likely have limited space
- Saturday 27th
- 6 to 9am – limited lanes LC. We can probably rent 3 at most.
- 6 to 9:30am- the pool will be set up SC due to Special Olympics championships starting at 9:30am, should be done by early afternoon
- 4:30 to 9pm – LC the whole pool it available.
- Sunday
- 8am to noon – LC. 3-4lanes
We can probably gain access to one side of the Multi-purpose room (potential to run dry land) and we should be able to get a classroom area.
It would be great to get as many coaches as possible to come to the camp regardless if they have simmers in the camp or not. We would like to discuss with Ken number of topics about performance, training and coaching so we can raise our game.
I would like to compile a list of topics for the discussion or interest area so I can give Ken heads up.
Time is of an essence and it would be good to send the information to potential swimmers as soon as possible. Can the committee provide feedback and input on the camp direction and goals?
Thank you,
Marta
