Timely and relevant information from the Atlantic Swim Coaches conference this weekend
The Atlantic swim coaches’ conference was held this past weekend in Liscomb Nova Scotia. Marta Belsh FAST, Robin Ferdinand UNB, Melanie Melanson FAST/UNB , Ryan Allen CNBO and Pat Ketterling SNB were the 5 New Brunswick participants. Other participants included 6 coaches from Newfoundland, 5 coaches from PEI and 21 coaches from Nova Scotia. The Atlantic Swim Coaches conference is an amazing opportunity for coaches to hear from experts on topics that are directly related to issues facing development coaches and clubs. This year’s speakers included Ryan Atkison, the bio mechanist for the Swimming Canada National team and Tom Rushton , assistant coach at the National training center in Montreal. Seminar topics at this year’s conference included: stroke mechanics – common issues and specific drills and sets to address these issues, Race preparation, execution and debriefing, and the mechanics of effective starts, turns, breakouts and transition. This information is relevant and timely for all coaches as competitive swimming begins a new season. The new Coaches funding model includes funding for the Atlantic swim coaches’ conference to help offset the $300 Registration fee. For the 2013-2014 season $250.00 per participant was made available. The Atlantic swim coaches’ conference is held every two years.
